Fabrication - Lighting Focus: Kaleidoscope
There quite magical about kaleidoscopes, the slow morphing patterns can be so hypnotizing. So I why not add another kaleidoscope to my collection, but have it project the patterns outwards.
Starting off in designing the form I did a couple of prototype out of paper using the origami method, just a single material forming the while shell. Moving from that step to just creating more prototypes out of a much thicker black paper, two way mirror film, and iridescent film.
The lighting effect was there but very faint and doesn't really project outwards much, so I switched the light source to a much power LED powered by two AA batteries. Adjusting the distance between the light source and the films also played an important role to bounce out the light more.
